Jerry E. Margulis

Jerry E. Margulis, 92, of Livingston, New Jersey, passed away peacefully in his home on Sunday, November 6, 2022.

Jerry was born in Newark, NJ and raised in Irvington, he also lived in Miami, Florida and East Orange before settling in Livingston, where he has resided for over 50 years.

Jerry proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. An undergraduate of Rutgers University, he received his master’s degree from Montclair State College. He was an English teacher and reading specialist at Columbia High School for over 25 years. He also spent many summers in Cornwall, Connecticut, teaching at the Marvelwood School of English and Reading.

Jerry was also an accomplished accordionist who played in many New York and New Jersey bands. In addition, he was a comedy writer who wrote humorous lines for many comedians and greeting card companies. In his last few years, his greatest joy was writing jokes for his grandchildren.

Jerry leaves behind his beloved wife of 61 years, Barbara Margulis; his two sons, Stu (Nancy) of Basking Ridge, and Jeff (Elise) of Livingston; and three grandsons, Ben, Brayden, and Danny.

A funeral service for Jerry will be held today, Thursday, November 10, 2022 at 3 p.m. at Bernheim-Apter-Kreitzman Suburban Funeral Chapel, 68 Old Short Hills Road, Livingston.
